Weekly Sports Recap & Update – June 30th Edition

The weekly sports calendar tends to be a little lighter than it was just a few weeks ago, but there are still some big events taking place each weekend. Golf and baseball are going to help get sports fans through the rest of the summer, but there is a big football game on the schedule this weekend.

Here is a look at three of the top sports events for the weekend and the betting opportunities that come from each event.

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Rocket Mortgage Classic

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is taking place this weekend on the PGA Tour, and this is always a popular stop. The best players in the world are not teeing it up this weekend, but there are still some big names that are competing for the title.

Taylor Moore and Peter Kuest entered Round 2 on Friday in a tie for first place with a score of -8. Even though those players got off to a pretty nice start, they still aren’t considered the betting favorites heading into the weekend.

Collin Morikawa and Rickie Fowler both got off to a big start in Round 1, and they are expected to be in the mix. Morikawa heads into Round 2 with odds at +750, and Fowler is right behind him at +1000.

If you are going to bet on this event, then taking Fowler at +1000 is the way to go.

Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

There are some interesting MLB matchups taking place this weekend, but a huge battle in the AL West is the best series to focus on. The Houston Astros visit the Texas Rangers for a weekend series that begins on Friday night, and it should be a battle in each matchup.

Texas has been the better overall team this season, and they are looking to end the reign of the Astros in the division. Houston is starting to turn things on a bit, but they just can’t seem to find a way to keep their pitchers healthy.

The Rangers are a moneyline betting favorites at -165 on Friday night, and they have a big edge in starting pitching in that one. Take Texas -165 in the series opener as they start it off with a win over their biggest rival.

USFL Championship Game

The USFL Championship Game is set to take place on Saturday night, and it will be the Pittsburgh Maulers taking on the Birmingham Stallions. Birmingham is trying to win their second title in a row, and Pittsburgh is trying to come up with a surprise victory.

The Maulers went just 4-6 during the USFL regular season, and they are a team that doesn’t do much scoring. Birmingham nearly scored 50 points in the semifinal win, and they have the ability to light up the scoreboard in a hurry.

The Stallions are pretty big 7.5-point betting favorites in this matchup, and it’s hard to see this game staying close. Bet on Birmingham at -7.5 to win a second straight USFL championship.
