Weekly Sports Recap & Update – August 4th Edition

By the looks of it, sports-wise, we are in for another exciting weekend!

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Atlanta Braves at Chicago Cubs

They are two of the hottest teams in all of MLB. The Chicago Cubs offense has been running wild in a couple of wins over Cincinnati.

The Cubs are just three games out in the National League Central standings. Atlanta is running away with their division and the entire National League. We expect some good pitching matchups but plenty of offense along the way.

Ronald Acuna Jr gets to hit at Wrigley Field, while Dansby Swanson gets a crack at his former team. This should be a great weekend series.

Wyndham Championship

This is the final PGA Tour regular season event of the year, and there is a ton on the line. Greensboro, North Carolina, is where the golfers will be all weekend. There will be plenty of storylines, with guys that need to improve their FedEx Cup standings status.

This should be a main event when looking at the weekend action of sports, as this will take place all of Friday and then most of Saturday and Sunday as they wrap up in the late afternoon on Sunday.

Houston Astros at New York Yankees

The Astros and Rangers are neck and neck in the American League West. Houston added Justin Verlander to their rotation, and Framber Valdez is coming off a no-hitter.

The folks at Yankee Stadium know they have to rattle off a winning streak and start it immediately, or this will be a lost season for the Bronx Bombers.

This should be a fun series of baseball between two talented teams. Good news for the Astros – they should avoid Gerrit Cole pitching in this series. This is a series to watch all weekend for some fun baseball on the East Coast.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres

Two teams in the National League West. Both are playing good baseball right now. The Padres are at home and know they have to start making their run now.

First, San Diego needs to get over .500; then, they need to make some ground up when it comes to that third wildcard spot. The Padres should be in the postseason, so this could be a last-ditch effort to make a run at it. The Dodgers have climbed to 16 games over .500 and look to be on track to win 90+ games once again.

This should be a good series, with the Padres going with a couple of their veteran starting pitchers. Look for fun baseball on the West Coast.

Firekeepers Casino 400 – Sunday

The best NASCAR drivers in the world will head to Michigan for the Firekeepers Casino 400. A season ago, Kevin Harvick came away the winner. This 200-lap race can be seen on USA Network.

Last week at the Cook Out 400, Chris Buescher pulled off a bit of an upset as he took down Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. You never know what will happen, so be sure to follow along on Sunday!

UFC Fight Night – Saturday

Saturday’s event will come from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. UFC Fight Night features Sandhagen vs. Font in the Bantamweight, while Andrade and Suarez will mix it up in the Women’s straw.

Look for Jacoby and Nzechukwu in the light heavyweight to be a fun one as well. Late-night fighting from Nashville can be your Saturday plans!

Las Vegas Aces at New York Liberty – Sunday

A big WNBA game. In fact, the two top teams in the league. The Liberty lead the East, and the Aces lead the West. These two teams are a combined 44-8 on the season.

The Aces have been nearly unbeatable, but heading across the country to play in New York will put them to the test. As the league starts approaching the postseason, the games heat up a bit. Expect this to be a tight one all day Sunday!

Sweden vs. United States – Sunday

Last but certainly not least is the United States Women’s soccer team in their quest to win the FIFA World Cup for the third straight time. The Americans just snuck by to get out of group play.

Now, it’s on. Sixteen teams have moved on, and the US will get their chance Sunday morning. They will take on a Sweden team that was great in the first three games, winning by a total of 9-1.

They beat South Africa, Italy, and Argentina. Can the Americans pick up their game and move to the Round of 8? We will find out Sunday morning!

Enjoy the weekend! We hope the weekend of sports treats you well. Football is just around the corner!
