Weekly Sports Recap & Update – June 16th Edition

Now that the NBA and NHL Playoffs are over, the sports calendar tends to get a little bit slower until the start of football season. There will be some weekends in which MLB games are going to present the best drama and excitement, but that’s not the case this weekend.

There is a major golf tournament taking place this weekend, and that will be the biggest event. Along with that, there are two MLB games this weekend that should generate plenty of interest as well.

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

2023 U.S. Open

The U.S. Open is typically the major golf tournament that provides the biggest challenge to golfers, and the scores tend to be higher than normal. That wasn’t the case in Round 1, as Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler both shot a 62 to tie the record for the best single round.

There are a number of ways to bet on the U.S. Open, but picking the winner is going to be the best way to look at this event. Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm were the favorites heading into the U.S. Open, but the odds have shifted a bit after the first round.

Here are the odds for the top five golfers heading into Round 2:

  • Xander Schauffele +340

  • Rory McIlroy +520

  • Scottie Scheffler +650

  • Rickie Fowler +680

  • Dustin Johnson +850

These are the five favorites heading into the weekend, but those odds can change in a big way depending on what happens in Round 2. This might be a perfect time to take a bet on Johnson at +850, as he is still in striking distance.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The NL Central Division race is really starting to heat up, even though none of the teams are playing well. First place will be on the line this weekend in Milwaukee as the Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pittsburgh enters the weekend with a slim 0.5-game lead over Milwaukee, and they will have Rich Hill on the mound in the series opener. Hill has gone 6-5 with a 4.23 ERA this season, and he will need the Pirates’ offense to shine in this game.

Milwaukee should be the best overall MLB team in this division, and they will use this weekend to show that off. The Brewers are a team with a ton of power at home, and they should start the series off with a win.

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers are meeting for a series this weekend, and this is one of the best rivalries in baseball. Both teams are close in the NL West Division standings at this point of the season, and that will only add to the drama.

While all of the games this weekend will provide great drama, the best matchup should take place on Sunday. Logan Webb is pitching for the Giants in this game, and he will be opposed by Tony Gonsolin.

Both of these teams have the ability to score a ton of runs on offense, and that will be a big key in this matchup as well. The Giants are going to get at least one win this weekend, but it will be the Dodgers to win the series finale.
