Another busy weekend of sports on tap. The first full weekend of January for 2024. Plenty of great events to bet on. Let’s take a look at the top sports for this weekend:
The Sentry – Thursday January 4th
Sunday January 7th, 2024:
It’s the opening weekend for the 2024 PGA Tour season. Many of the top golfers in the world are getting together at Kapalua Resort in Hawaii. This should be a fun event, and kick off another great season of the PGA Tour. Never a bad time to follow and watch golf, especially in the beautiful weather of Hawaii.
Chicago Blackhawks at New Jersey Devils
Friday January 5th, 2024:
Two of the young stars in the game of hockey will get together in New Jersey. Connor Bedard against Jack Hughes. The two teams have not been great, but when you get two of potentially the faces of the game together, it becomes a must watch. Chicago comes into the game fresh off a game at the Rangers, and will be looking to snap a long losing streak. The Blackhawks just cannot find consistent ways to win games on the ice.
Illinois Fighting Illini at Purdue Boilermakers
Friday January 5th, 2024:
The battle for the Big Ten. Zach Edey and his Boilermakers are ready to welcome the Illini to town. The Orange and Blue have been really good, and are coming into the game fresh off a beatdown over Northwestern. This will be a new kind of test. The Boilermakers seem to be playing near the top of their game with a recent road win. This could be the best College Basketball game of the month, let alone this weekend.
Miami Heat at Phoenix Suns
Friday January 5th, 2024:
The Miami Heat go on the road to take on the Phoenix Suns on Friday night. There is no doubt that the Suns have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league. But with over half of the season left, if the league lets them get hot, look out. The Suns are coming off a home loss to the Clippers on Wednesday. The Heat, despite injuries, just find ways to stay competitive. Miami smoked the Lakers in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
Saturday January 6th, 2024:
The second game on Saturday in the NFL. The winner of this game will be in the postseason. The winner also could be the winner of the AFC South pending the Jaguars final. CJ Stroud on the national picture against a fairly shaky Indianapolis defense. This is going to be a heck of a football game to get our weekend started right with the pigskin. The postseason is right around the corner!
Boston Celtics at Indiana Pacers
Saturday January 6th, 2024:
Two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference will get together. The Pacers beat the Celtics in Vegas as part of the in-season tournament. Boston is coming off a tough loss at Oklahoma City, while the Pacers have won five straight games. This should be a very entertaining game, as both teams can score with the best of them,
New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens
Saturday January 6th, 2024:
The top team in the Eastern Conference has been the New York Rangers. The Rangers have been off to a great start in 2023-2024. They will head north to take on a Canadiens team that is looking to get back in the mix for the postseason. These two teams have a long history, so expect more great hockey on Saturday night!
Ole Miss Rebels at Tennessee Volunteers
Saturday January 6th, 2024:
A pair of ranked College Basketball teams get together to start the SEC play. The Rebels and Volunteers both have gotten off to a great start. The Rebels are unbeaten, and moved into the Top 25 with their 13-0 mark. Tennessee has won six in a row following their 4-3 start to the season. The folks in Knoxville are going to be rocking for this game on Saturday night.
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins
Sunday January 7th, 2024:
The Sunday Night Football game. The winner of this game wins the AFC East. The winner will also be the 2nd seed in the postseason. The loser will fall down the standings, and for Buffalo, a loss could still mean missing the postseason. The Bills won easily the first time, and are playing great football right now. This should be a fun way to finish the regular season.
Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers
Sunday January 7th, 2024:
Battle of Los Angeles on the hardwood on Sunday. The Clippers have moved up the Western Conference standings with four straight wins and 8 out of their last 10 games overall. They are finally putting everything together with all their talent. For the Lakers, the in-season tournament has caused them to really struggle since. The Lakers are 2-8 in their last 10 and have dropped three in a row. Anytime these two get together, fireworks are possible.
Los Angeles Kings at Washington Capitals
Sunday January 7th, 2024:
The West heads East. The Kings and Capitals seem to be heading opposite directions. The Kings look to be in control of a postseason spot in the West, while the Capitals are struggling to be in the mix in the East. It will be interesting to see how the Kings respond playing across the country on this Sunday affair.
SMU Mustangs at Memphis Tigers
Sunday January 7th, 2024:
The College Basketball season starts heating up after the New Year. This should be a great game with the 10-4 Mustangs and the 11-2 Tigers. The AAC is going to be a competitive conference, and this is just the start. Look for a competitive game from start to finish here.
