NBA Rankings, NHL Rankings, College Basketball Rankings, Alabama Wins With New Quarterback

The Lakers dominated, a couple of surprise squads moved up the college basketball rankings, and Deontay Wilder left no doubt he’s the top heavyweight boxer on the planet. Check out what happened this past week in the sports world!

Weekly Sports Update – Nov. 25th Edition

NBA – Lakers Climb to 14-2

At 14-2, the L.A. Lakers have the best record in the NBA. LeBron’s squad is on a 7-game winning streak. Although Los Angeles is no doubt one of the teams that can win the NBA Championship, the teams they beat during the streak doesn’t impress. L.A. took down the Thunder twice, the Suns, Warriors, Kings, Hawks, and Grizzlies once each. None of those teams will sniff their conference championship. Most of those teams won’t even come close to making the playoffs.

At 12-5, the Clippers are only 2 ½ games behind LAL. But, the Clippers are on a 5-game winning streak that includes victories over the Rockets and Celtics. LAC offers more value than LAL to win the NBA Championship. If you think a La-La-Land team takes it, lean towards Kawhi and the Clippers.

NHL – Bruins Maintain 6-point Lead in the Atlantic

In the National Hockey League, the Boston Bruins continue to show the way. The Bruins sit at 15-3-5 with 35 points. The next closest team are the Florida Panthers with 29 points. Last season, the Tampa Bay Lightning dominated the NHL. This season, the Bruins are the Atlantic team that’s dominating.

Although the Blues lead in the West, they haven’t separated much from the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets. It means the power looks to be in the East. In addition to Boston rocking the Atlantic, the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals have taken charge of the Metropolitan.

One team in the Metro that could upset things are the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes have won 2 in a row. They have 31 points, 6 behind the Capitals. Carolina should keep it going. Who knows? They could overtake the Caps in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

NCAAB – Ohio State, Arizona, Move Up in Rankings

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Arizona Wildcats have moved up the most in the rankings. The Buckeyes are at 10th. They moved up 6 spots since last week. Arizona moved up 5 spots to 14th.

Ohio State dominates on defense. The Buckeyes allow 52 points per game. Opponents shoot 31.3% from the field and 29.9% from three. The Buckeyes also have a signature win. They beat Villanova 76-61 as a -1 home favorite on Nov. 13.

Like Ohio State, Arizona wins with defense. Opponents average 57.3 points versus the Wildcats. U of A doesn’t just hope to run out the clock, though. The Cats average 87.7 points per game. They shoot 52.2% from the field. Also, they drain threes at a 41.2% clip.

The Wildcats are at Baylor on Dec. 7. They battle Gonzaga on Dec. 14. No doubt, those 2 games will either careen the Wildcats out of the Top 15 or send them into the Top 10.

Soccer – Champions League Resumes This Week

Champions League soccer resume this week with games on Tuesday and Wednesday. A couple of gigantic matchups take place on Tuesday. Juventus battles Atletico Madrid while Paris St-Germain takes on Real Madrid.

Real has resurged this season. They were a mess last season but this season they have 28 points in La Liga. That ties Real Madrid with Barcelona. The resurgence is so profound that Real will go off the favorite versus PSG on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the top team in the deepest league battles Napoli. Liverpool almost won both the UCL and the EPL last season. They lead the Premier League by 8 points over Leicester and 9 points over Man City. At this point, Pool is the top soccer club in the world.

Boxing – Deontay Wilder Drops Luis Ortiz

40-year-old Luis Ortizclaimed that Deontay Wilder didn’t hurt him in their first fight. Per Ortiz, Wilder got the knockout victory because Luis got tired. Wilder didn’t leave Ortiz any room to come up with excuses this past Saturday night in the rematch.

Deontay dropped Ortiz via a devastating right-hand in the 7th. Deontay can land one-punch knockouts at any moment. It doesn’t matter who he fights. Also, Ortiz made a huge mistake. He squared up. You can’t square up in any fight, much less one versus Deontay Wilder. Once Ortiz squared up, Deontay threw the well-timed right cross.

Wilder’s next fight should be against Tyson Fury. Fury confused Deontay in the first fight. Will he in the second?

College Football – Alabama Wins with Mac Jones at Quarterback

The new college football rankings come out on Tuesday. If nothing changes, Alabama should remain at 5. Rumbles happened last Saturday after quarterback Tua Tagovailoa got injured. Most thought the Tide might fall from 5th.

Not so. The Selection Committee said that Tua’s absence the rest of the season had no bearing on their decision to keep Bama at 5. Because 6-Oregon lost to ASU and 8-Penn State lost to Ohio State, the only team that can leapfrog Alabama is 7-Utah.

Utah’s only loss came against USC, who is 23rd on the College Football Playoff Rankings. Alabama still has the “best” loss of any 1-loss team. Bama dropped a game to LSU, 1st on the CFP Rankings.

Can Alabama make the CFP? Oh, yeah, they can! Georgia must beat LSU in the SEC Championship. LSU can knock Georgia out. Oklahoma won’t play a top team in the Big 12 Championship while K-State will end their season unranked.

The Selection Committee views who you lose to almost as important as who you beat. Alabama lost to the top team in the nation. They’ve dominated everyone else. They get the nod over every other 1-loss team.

Have a great week!
