Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Top Sports Events for This Weekend – October 2 –  October 3

Major League Baseball

With the regular season-ending this weekend, there are still playoff spots that need to be decided. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Mariners are all still fighting for the two Wild Card spots in the American League. Heading into Thursday’s action, the Yankees hold a one-game lead over the Red Sox, while the Sox have a ½-game cushion over Seattle for the second spot.

The Red Sox have a weekend series with the Nationals, while the Mariners play the Angels, and the Yankees host the Rays. The Rays have already clinched the American League East and also hold the top record in the American League, so we’re not sure who they’ll put out on the field. This race could come down to Sunday’s games.

In the National League, the National League West is still up for grabs. The San Francisco Giants currently hold a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both teams will make the playoffs regardless, but neither of them wants to have to play a one-game Wild Card elimination game. The Dodgers host the Brewers this weekend, while the Giants play the Padres.

College Football

We have three big matchups in the college football world this weekend. The seventh-rated Cincinnati Bearcats will travel to South Bend to take on the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The winner of this one will vault themselves into serious playoff contention.

The other big game will be in Athens, Georgia, as the #2 Georgia Bulldogs will host #8 Arkansas. The Razorbacks have surged up the rankings after victories over Texas and Texas A&M. We’ll see if the Hogs can score on the vaunted Bulldog defense.

Finally, old friend Lane Kiffin will return to Tuscaloosa as his #12 Ole Miss Rebels take on the top team in the country in the Alabama Crimson Tide. Kiffin has one of the top offenses in the nation, which is led by one of the top quarterbacks. This one should be a great matchup to watch.

NFL

We’ve made it to Week 4 of the season, and Sunday’s action will be capped off by one of the most highly-anticipated regular-season games in the last few years. Tom Brady will return to New England for the first time since leaving to take on Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Brady wants to prove to everyone that he was more responsible than Belichick for New England’s title in his tenure. This one will be fun to watch, as we’ll have lots of storylines throughout the game.

The NFC West may be the toughest division in football, and we’ll see the teams matching up this weekend. The Los Angeles Rams will host the Arizona Cardinals in one matchup. Both teams come into this undefeated. In the other game, the Seattle Seahawks will travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers. All four of these teams think that they have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs.
