Weekly Sports Recap & Update – July 2nd Edition

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already the 4th of July weekend! Where has the summer gone? With this weekend, we always see a lot of great sporting events taking place. We have the Eastern Conference Finals getting ready to wrap up in the NBA, plenty of Major League Baseball action, NASCAR racing, Wimbledon, and the PGA Tour event. Let’s take a look at some of the top sporting events of the weekend.

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Top Sports Events for This Weekend – July 3 –  July 4

NBA Playoffs

Now that the Phoenix Suns have already clinched a spot in the NBA Finals, they’re awaiting the winner of the Milwaukee Bucks-Atlanta Hawks series. Game 6 of this series will be played on Saturday night in Atlanta. They’re currently tied at two games apiece, with Game 5 being played on Thursday night. The main headline in this series right now is the status of the star player of each team.

Giannis Antetokounmpo left Game 4 with a hyperextended knee, while Trae Young sat out Game 4 with a bone bruise. We doubt that either player suits up in Game 5, and it’s questionable whether or not we’ll see them in Game 6. Regardless, Game 6 will be huge for both teams, as one team could clinch a spot in the NBA Finals, while the other one will be fighting for their playoff lives.

MLB

The headlining series in Major League Baseball this weekend will be the New York Mets taking on the New York Yankees. The Mets are in 1st place in the National League, while the Yankees are struggling, sitting in 4th place in the American League East. Even though the Yankees are struggling, this series still means a lot to the city of New York. Fans of both teams will flock to the Bronx this weekend to watch these two foes face off.

PGA Tour

This weekend’s top on the PGA Tour takes the golfers to Michigan for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Although this field isn’t as loaded as some of the previous tournaments, there are still a lot of good golfers in Michigan this weekend. Bryson DeChambeau will be playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He is favored to win this event. DeChambeau will be joined by Jason Kokrak, Hideki Matsuyama, Will Zalatoris, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, and Kevin Kisner, just to name a few. It should be a great weekend to be on the links!

NASCAR

The NASCAR Circuit will make its first-ever visit to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for the NASCAR Cup Series Jockey Made in America 250 on Sunday. Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex, Jr., Kyle Busch, and Joey Logano are the favorites to take home the checkered flag on their maiden voyage on this new track.

ATP Tour & WTA Tour

After missing last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wimbledon is back this year. The premier event of the tennis season is being played at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club. On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic is the clear-cut favorite to win the title. On the women’s side, things aren’t as clear. Since Naomi Osaka chose not to play, and Serena Williams had to withdraw after getting injured in her first match of the tournament, the women’s draw has some questions. Ashleigh Barty and Aryna Sabalenka are now the top two favorites to take the women’s crown.
