Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Top Sports Events for This Weekend – Jan. 9 – Jan. 10

College Hoops

In the world of college basketball, we’re entering the thick of the conference season. On Saturday, we’ll see 16 ranked teams in action. We should have seen 18 teams, but COVID has once again reared its ugly head and the 10th-rated Michigan Wolverines and #23 Saint Louis are unable to play.

Saturday’s feature matchup will have Shaka Smart’s #4 Texas Longhorns travel to Blacksburg, West Virginia to take on Bob Huggins and his #14 West Virginia Mountaineers. Texas has been a surprise team this season. Many had been disappointed with what Smart had accomplished in his tenure at Texas, but this year, he’s proving his critics wrong. Huggins has a very athletic squad at West Virginia, and his team could make some noise in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

On Sunday, we’ll see a premier matchup in the Big 10, as the 16th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers will travel to take on the #5 Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa is one of the teams that many think can actually contend with Gonzaga and Baylor. Minnesota has been a surprise team this year, as many saw this as a rebuilding year for Richard Pitino.

NBA

In the NBA, we’ll see a ton of teams in action this weekend. Saturday’s top matchup will see the Denver Nuggets travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia 76ers. We’re hoping this matchup takes place, as it was announced late Thursday evening that Sixers guard Seth Curry tested positive for the coronavirus. This could affect the status of the game, or the game could still be played but without numerous key players.

Sunday will also see a lot of great NBA action. Denver will stay on the east coast to take on the surprising New York Knicks. Tom Thibodeua has done a great job of turning the Knicks around to start the season. The Lakers will travel to Houston to take on James Harden and the Rockets. The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics will clash for the second time this week, and the Raptors will head out west to take on Steph Curry and the Warriors.

Golf Also in Play

The PGA Tour is also in action this weekend, and the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua is loaded with some of the top names in golf. Justin Thomas, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Adam Scott, Patrick Cantlay, and Bryson DeChambeau are just a few of the big names that are playing this weekend. This tournament is full of great golfers, and should see great action.

Playoffs!

And finally, how can we forget the NFL playoffs? For the first time in the history of the league, we’ll see a tripleheader on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, we’ll see the Colts travel to Buffalo, the Rams at Seattle and Tampa Bay at Washington. Sunday’s action will see Baltimore at Tennessee, Chicago at New Orleans, and in the final game of the weekend, the Browns will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.
