Weekly Sports Recap & Update – February 24th Edition

February is traditionally a slow time on the sports calendar, as we hit a lull between the end of the NFL season and the beginning of March Madness. But this weekend, while the stakes of the events may not be high, there is a little something for everyone.

Let’s take a closer look at the Boxing and some of the other can’t-miss events this weekend.

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Floyd Mayweather vs. Aaron Chalmers

There are no titles at stake when Floyd Mayweather takes the ring in London for the first time ever on Saturday. But anytime Mayweather boxes, it’s a big deal.

At the O2 Arena on Saturday, he squares off in an exhibition bout against former MMA fighter and reality TV star Aaron Chalmers.

Mayweather was 50-0 in his professional career, and now in his very profitable exhibition career, he has fought Logan Paul, kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, and YouTuber Deji. Now it’s Chalmers, a UK reality TV star turned Bellator fighter who retired from MMA with a 7-5 record.

The fight will stream live on the Zeus Network.

No. 8 Texas Longhorns at No. 9 Baylor Bears

Before we get to March, there is still some regular season business to work out, like the winner of the Big 12. Texas enters the weekend tied with Kansas for first place, with Baylor tied for third place two games back.

It is unlikely that Baylor will play themselves into the top seed for the Big 12 Tournament, but that is very much in play for Texas. And as both teams position themselves for NCAA Tournament seeding, a win over a top-10 opponent has extra juice.

From a purely entertainment standpoint, these two played at the end of January in a very good 76-71 Texas win. The rematch on Saturday is definitely one to watch.

No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers at No. 5 Purdue Boilermakers

In-state conference rivals meet in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday as Purdue looks to wrap up at least a tie for the conference title. They lead the Big Ten by two games, with just three regular-season games remaining.

Purdue has this game at home against Indiana, and then next week, they go to Wisconsin and back home to end against Illinois.

The Hoosiers are looking to make some noise in their power rankings with a big win over a top-5 team. Purdue, on the other hand, is still hoping to play their way into a top NCAA Tournament seed. The Boilermakers did lose the matchup in Bloomington three weeks ago, so they really want this win.

Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid.

On Saturday, the Madrid derby at Bernabeu is the biggest soccer match in Europe. More than just a rivalry for this meeting, both teams currently sit in the top-4 of La Liga, with Real Madrid in second place, and Atletico in fourth.

Real Madrid is eight points behind first-place Barcelona, so they are in need of a win to keep pace. Atletico is five points clear of fifth place Real Betix, and of course, they need to stay in the top four to earn their way into the UEFA Champions League next season.

The last time Atletico won at Bernabeu was in 2016.
