Top Sports Events for This Weekend – August 20 – August 21

The Hunt for the Postseason

There are some big games with playoff implications in Major League Baseball this weekend. The Chicago White Sox will travel to Cleveland to take on the Guardians this weekend.

The Sox are in third place in the American League Central, but they’re just two games behind the division-leading Guardians. This one should be a great series, as both teams are playing well right now.

The New York Mets will travel to Philadelphia for a four-game set this weekend. Since firing Joe Girardi, the Phillies have played good baseball.

They’re currently sitting in one of the wild card spots, but they’re looking to move up in the division. Philadelphia will avoid seeing Jacob deGrom and could avoid Max Scherzer as well.

The Houston Astros head to Atlanta to take on the Braves. This could be a potential World Series matchup.

The Braves are starting to play better baseball, and Houston could end up being the best team in the American League if the Yankees continue to collapse. This should be a fun series to watch this weekend.

FedEx Cup Playoffs

The second weekend of the FedEx Cup Playoffs on the PGA Tour will come to us from the South Course in Wilmington, Delaware, for the BMW Championship. Some players didn’t make the second leg of the playoffs, but there are still plenty of huge names playing at the BMW.

Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Will Zalatoris headline this weekend’s event.

The players are playing for a huge purse, so the stakes will be high in Delaware. It should be another great weekend of PGA Tour action.

NFL Preseason Action

It’s another action-packed weekend of NFL action. We’re not sure how much action that probable starting players will see, but nonetheless, it will still be NFL action.

One game, in particular, to keep an eye on will be the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers. These two teams have practiced together this week and have had numerous fights in those practices.

One fight even spilled into the stands, where some fans were injured. Hopefully, all of the pettiness is done, and we’ll just get to see some well-played football.

UFC Action

After seven years, Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards will meet for the second time in the octagon. In the first bout, Usman won via decision, but things have changed a lot in those seven years.

Usman is now the welterweight champion and will be making his sixth title defense. Edwards is the #2-ranked contender and hasn’t lost since his last fight with Usman. Usman is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. This should be one action-packed fight.
