Top Sports Events for This Weekend – September 4 –  September 5

College Football

It’s Labor Day weekend, and we’re kicking off the college football season. There are some great games this weekend, headlined by the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide taking on the 14th-rated Miami Hurricanes in Atlanta. Another top game will see two potential playoff teams clashing, as the #2 Clemson Tigers will meet the third-rated Georgia Bulldogs. The loser of this game could find themselves in a tough situation in regards to the College Football Playoffs.

Some other top games include: #23 Louisiana-Lafayette vs. #21 Texas in Steve Sarkisian’s debut, #17 Indiana at #18 Iowa, and the 19th-rated Penn State Nittany Lions headed to Madison to take on the #12 Wisconsin Badgers.

Major League Baseball

As we’ve entered September, the pennant races are heating up. One pennant race that could come down to the wire is in the National League West, as the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are in a heated race. The Dodgers just overtook the Giants earlier this week, and currently hold a ½-game lead over the Giants. We’ll see how the division looks after the weekend, as the Dodgers head to San Francisco for a weekend series.

PGA Tour

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve come to the end of the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. The season will conclude with one of the most exciting events of the season at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta Georgia. The Top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will play in this weekend’s Tour Championship

What makes this event unique is the fact that the 30 golfers will all begin with starting strokes. Since Patrick Cantlay won last weekend’s event, he’ll start with the best stroke value at -10. Tony Finau won the first FedEx playoff event, so he’ll be right behind Cantlay with a – 8.

Cantlay, Finau, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, and Dustin Johnson lead the list of names who are favored to take home the $15 million first prize for winning this weekend’s event.

NASCAR

The Darlington Raceway will host the NASCAR circuit this weekend. On Saturday, the XFinity Series will win in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200. On Sunday, the Cup Series will be front and center for the Cook Out Southern 500. Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin are the favorites in this one. The NASCAR playoffs are coming up soon, so drivers are focusing on getting into the playoff field.
