Top Sports Events for This Weekend – October 1 – October 2

The Race for the Playoffs

With just over a week left in the regular season, teams are making the final pushes for playoff spots. In the National League, we have two big races to watch. In the NL East, the New York Mets are just one game ahead of the Atlanta Braves. And wouldn’t you know it, those two square off this weekend in a three-game set.

The aces for both teams will square off on Friday night, as Jacob deGrom will go up against Max Fried. On Saturday, Max Scherzer will face off against 20-game winner Kyle Wright. And in the series finale, we’ll see Chris Bassitt and Charlie Morton.

In the race for the final NL wild-card spot, the Philadelphia Phillies currently hold a ½-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Phillies are going up against the Washington Nationals this weekend, while the Brewers will tussle with the Florida Marlins. This race could come down to the wire.

NFL Week 4

Two teams that have gotten off to great starts will square off, as the Jacksonville Jaguars will take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are undefeated, while the Jags are 2-1. Trevor Lawrence has gotten off to a great start, and Doug Pederson’s squad looks like it could contend for a playoff spot in the AFC. They’ll face quite possibly the best team in the NFC in the Eagles. This one should be fun to watch.

In the premiere game of the week, the Kansas City Chiefs will travel south to Tampa Bay to take on the Bucs on Sunday Night Football. This could quite possibly be the last time that Patrick Mahomes and the legendary Tom Brady will face off. Tampa’s offense has yet to click this season, but Sunday could be the night that things finally click.

A top AFC game will pit the Buffalo Bills against the Baltimore Ravens. These are two of the top teams in the AFC. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are arguably the two best quarterbacks in the league today. Both teams have great defenses, but we’re looking for big things from both offenses. This could be the most exciting game of the day.

College Football

We’ll see a key SEC matchup, as the Alabama Crimson Tide will face the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas is coming off of a tough loss against Texas A&M, but the raucous Fayetteville faithful will help make things difficult for Nick Saban’s squad.

Besides that game, we’ll see numerous other games pitting ranked teams against each other. In the SEC, the Kentucky Wildcats will travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. In the Big 12, Baylor and Oklahoma State will square off. In the ACC, Florida State will battle with Wake Forest, while Clemson and North Carolina State will be a highly-contested contest.
