Weekly Sports Recap & Update – August 5th Edition

It’s shaping up to be another busy weekend in the sports world. As we head into August, the Major League Baseball pennant races are heating up. The trade deadline has passed, and teams are gearing up for the stretch run.

We have numerous series this weekend that could have big playoff implications. We’ll also see the final regular season event on the PGA Tour as the golf world heads east to North Carolina.

We can’t forget a weekend full of NASCAR action in Michigan, as the XFinity Series and the Cup Series will both be racing this weekend. Let’s take a look at the upcoming weekend’s top sporting events.

Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Top Sports Events for This Weekend – August 6 – August 7

Major League Baseball Action

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets

The top two teams in the National League East will meet in a rare five-game series this weekend, as the Atlanta Braves will visit the division-leading New York Mets. The Braves enter Thursday night’s action trailing the Mets by 3.5 games. This is a huge series for both teams, as the Mets can separate themselves from the Braves, or the Braves could possibly overtake the Mets for the Division lead.

San Diego Padres @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The San Diego Padres enter the weekend trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers by 3.5 games, but after the Padres made a big splash at the trade deadline, the Dodgers need to be worried.

These two will meet in a weekend series in Los Angeles. San Diego hit it big as they acquired Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Josh Hader to make a push to win the National League pennant. We’re not sure if they have enough to beat Los Angeles in the playoffs, but the Padres have shown the baseball world that they’ll do whatever it takes to win. We’ll see how these two match up this weekend.

PGA Tour

The PGA Tour heads east to North Carolina this weekend, as the Wyndham Championship will be held at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. This field is void of many of the world’s top golfers, but it is still a solid field. Sungjae Im, Will Zalatoris, Shane Lowry, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Champ are the headliners this weekend. This is the last tour event of the regular season, so many will be playing for a chance to move on to the FedEx playoffs.

NASCAR

The NASCAR Circuit will head north to Michigan this weekend for a weekend full of racing! On Saturday, the XFinity Series will take center stage in the New Holland 250.

On Sunday, the Cup Series drivers will try and tame the Michigan International Speedway in the FireKeepers Casino 400. Tyler Reddick will be looking for his second straight victory, but he’ll have many others looking to claim Sunday’s checkered flag.

Among the favorites are Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, and Denny Hamlin. Martin Truex Jr. is a trendy pick here, as he has four Top 5 finishes in his last five races and has finished in the Top 6 at Michigan in six of his last nine starts at the MIS. It should be a fun weekend full of racing action!
