Betting Action: Weekly Sports Recap & Updates

Top Sports Events for This Weekend – August  28 –  August 29

College Football Week 0

This weekend, we’ll see the kickoff to the 2021 college football season. This weekend is known as Week 0 on the schedule, as there will be a limited number of games this weekend, while the season will be in full swing next weekend. On Saturday, we’ll see a few games involving FBS teams.

In a Big 10 clash, we’ll see the Nebraska Cornhuskers traveling to Champaign-Urbana to take on the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. Bret Bielema has taken over the Illinois program, while Nebraska alum and head coach Scott Frost could be on the hot seat if things don’t go well early on. We’ll also see UCLA taking on Hawaii, Connecticut traveling West to take on Fresno State, UTEP battling New Mexico St., and Southern Utah playing San Jose State.

Major League Baseball Action

With the playoff races getting tenser by the day, there are two series that we’ll be keeping an eye on this weekend. In the National League, two division leaders will clash, as the San Francisco Giants will make their way to Atlanta to take on the surging Braves. The Giants currently have the best record in baseball and hold the #1 seed in the NL playoff race.

Another important series will pit the New York Yankees against the Oakland A’s. These two teams are currently two of the top three teams chasing Wild Card playoff positions in the American League. New York would be the top Wild Card if the season were to end today, while Oakland would be out of the playoffs. The Yankees have won 11-straight games, so Oakland would love to win the series and inch closer to a playoff berth.

PGA Tour

The second FedEx Cup Playoff event takes place this weekend at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills Maryland, as the players will tee off in the BMW Championship. After the crazy finish to last weekend’s Northern Trust, 70 golfers remain in contention for the FedEx Cup.

John Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Smith, Patrick Cantlay, and Brooks Koepka are listed as the top contenders to win the BMW Championship.

Let’s Go Racing!

The famed Daytona International Speedway will host a weekend full of NASCAR action. The Cup Series will be front and center on Saturday night, as the top drivers in the world will participate in the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Larson sit atop the list of favorites to take home the checkered flag on Saturday.
