2019 NBA Playoffs Conference Finals, 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, 2019 Preakness Stakes, 2019 PGA Championship

NBA Conference Finals:  Warriors vs Trail Blazers, and Bucks vs Raptors

The Portland Trail Blazers came back from being down 17 points at halftime to shock the Denver Nuggets in an impressive 100-96 win. CJ McCollum scored 37 points to lead Portland’s charge into the Western Conference Finals.

Now, the Trail Blazers must face the dynasty itself, the Golden State Warriors. With Kevin Durant on the bench, the Warriors blitzed Houston and James Harden 118-113 in Game 6. Steph Curry scored 33 while Kyle Thompson had 27. Golden State might be without Durant for the first couple of games. Will it matter?

Probably not. The Warriors matchup well with Portland while nobody on the Trail Blazers side can match up with Draymond Green. If Kevin Durant comes back early, the Warriors could sweep the Blazers.

Over in the Eastern Conference, Giannis led the Bucks to a 4-0 sweep of the Boston Celtics while the Raptors used a last second shot from Kawhi Leonard to advance past the Philadelphia 76ers 92-90 in Game 7. Toronto must use their three-point shooters to have any chance against the Bucks.

Milwaukee’s Achilles Heel is three-point defense. They rank twenty-second in the NBA in that category. If Leonard, Danny Green, and Kyle Lowry can have success from behind the arc, the NBA Conference Finals could go 7 games.

In any case, both series should be ultra-entertaining. At the end, don’t be surprised if we see a Warriors-Bucks Finals.

Boston Bruins Dominating in NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Bruins were down 1 game to 2 versus the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Conference Quarterfinals. Since being down, Boston has become the easy choice to win the Stanley Cup. The Bruins are rocking it. They’ve won 5 straight playoff games, 3 in a row to close out Columbus, and the first 2 games in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Boston’s real magic happened in Game 2 where they dominated the Hurricanes 6-2. The victory came on the heels of a 5-2 Game 1 win. The Bruins are playing at such a high-level right now that they might not lose another game this season. They could sweep Carolina and then sweep either St. Louis or San Jose in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Speaking of the Blues and Sharks, San Jose looked great in Game 1. They dominated the Blues 6-3. St. Louis is a solid team, though. Make sure to watch Game 2 on Monday night, May 13. If the Blues make the necessary adjustments, they’ll turn the Western Conference Finals into a close series.

Tiger Warms Up His Sticks for the PGA Championship

The PGA Championship takes place this week. The 2019 Masters Champion did a couple of notable things last week. First, Tiger accepted the Medal of Freedom from President Trump. Second, Tiger got his sticks ready for this week.

While his competitors hit the fairways and greens at the Bryon Nelson, Woods was seen practicing shots for the second major tournament of the year. Tiger hasn’t played competitively since taking his fifth green jacket in mid-April. He’s serious, which should scare his competition.

At +900 odds on MyBookie, Tiger might be an overlay.

Manchester City squeaks out an English Premier League Championship

Manchester City squeaked out an English Premier League Championship over Liverpool this weekend. Although Man City deserves props, Liverpool probably isn’t crying in their black and tans about it.

The EPL doesn’t have a playoff. Because of that, most soccer fans in North America are paying attention to the Champions League where Liverpool still has a chance for a trophy. The Champions League is the big prize because it encompasses the top teams from every league: EPL, La Liga, the Bundesliga, etc.

Liverpool faces fellow EPL rival Tottenham in the Champions League Championship. That’s the title Pool is looking to score.

Haskins, Murry, make first NFL throws

Rookies hit NFL minicamps last Friday and through the weekend. One rookie stood out, Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Haskins looked great throwing at his first NFL practice.

Haskins has all the tools to be a star in the NFL. If he has as great of a training camp as he has looked so far in minicamp, forget it. Jay Gruden will put Haskins under center in Week 1. Washington improved their defense. Plus, they’ve got a good offensive line.

Top pick Kyler Murray also made his first NFL throws over the weekend. Murray didn’t look as good as Haskins. Although the Cardinals believe he doesn’t have a ceiling, the small quarterback must adjust to the NFL while Haskins already appears to have adjusted to pros.

Murray claims that he wore cleats that he hadn’t yet broken in to describe his okay performance on Friday. He’s got a talent, but there’s a reason he considered a baseball career before winning the Heisman Trophy last season.

Preakness Stakes will be competitive

Although Maximum Security and Country House will skip the Preakness, the race should be ultra-competitive. The early favorite, Improbable, hasn’t won yet this year. The Baffert trainee will face stiff competition from a host of new shooters.

We’ll have plenty more about the Preakness this week. Stay tuned for that. Also, don’t forget to check out Tiger at the PGA Championship later this week and keep tabs on both the NBA and NHL.

Have a great week!
